my backyard nature

its all about nature!

Growing Pineapple

I bought pineapple a while ago even though i am not a big fan of that fruit. After consuming it, i saved the top crown part and saved it. Pineapples are a type of bromeliad so i wanted to grow the plant from the top part.

I left in the water for 6 weeks or so changing water periodically when it gets muggy.

Eventually after 6 weeks it started sprouting out roots in the stem part & new leaves started growing too.

Once the roots grew out i planted it in soil outside. Now its been over an year and it is growing healthy.

I tried growing a second one too a while ago, that also successfully grew roots and planted that in the soil & now its well established too.

Burro Banana

This would be the third year that we are harvesting small or burro banana from our backyard. Our plantain only failed us once which was last one year but that would be probably because we have been trying to save water & watering lesser & lesser when the plantain needs a lot of water for yielding fruit.

This is three pictures of the same banana row. We ate the bottom row( approx. 15-20), YUM!!

Orchids

I have 2 moth orchids which is the most common type of orchid & is also called the Phalaenopsis orchids. One is purple & the other is pinkish orange in color! They bloomed around the same time(just like my lily & pickerel rush (from another post of mine)) but they are really different in size! Purple moth orchid just had another bloom a month ago & from the same stem but about half way through started this new stem & the current one started growing out.
