Metal Tube Peanut Bird feeder

I wanted to build a peanut feeder which turned out to be fairly easier than I thought. As a bird watcher, I always get to see a lot of House Finches, Mourning Doves, Sparrows, Red-tailed Hawks, Mallard Ducks, Black Pheobes in my backyard but not so much of the nut loving birds!!

I had to buy a chicken wire

2 round plaques(4″*4″)

and a copper wire. Also need a driller, and 3 zip ties.

Rolled up the chicken wire to the inner size of the plaques and tied zip ties on three parts

Then drilled tiny holes on both the plaques

Then thread the copper wire through the first one and tied a knot at the bottom and then pulled it through the rolled up chicken wire and placed the second plaque on top of the chicken wire and pulled the copper wire through the drilled hole and tied it on top and made a loop to hang it up.

Then push a couple of bamboo sticks diagonally across as a perch.

I added the raw peanuts first but they were too small so instead i got the shelled peanuts and they seem to be perfect and its attracting Blue Jays and Mockingbirds!!

Growing Pineapple

I bought pineapple a while ago even though i am not a big fan of that fruit. After consuming it, i saved the top crown part and saved it. Pineapples are a type of bromeliad so i wanted to grow the plant from the top part.

I left in the water for 6 weeks or so changing water periodically when it gets muggy.

Eventually after 6 weeks it started sprouting out roots in the stem part & new leaves started growing too.

Once the roots grew out i planted it in soil outside. Now its been over an year and it is growing healthy.

I tried growing a second one too a while ago, that also successfully grew roots and planted that in the soil & now its well established too.

Humming bird Perch

This Humming bird has been a regular at my feeder for a very long time & always perches on something close to the feeder so that he can fight off any other hummer who comes by to feed on it. Then I thought of making him a perch which could be conveniently next to the feeder, so that he can be closer.IMG_0251

So I came up with one idea & for that I used a pencil & a copper wire!

.

At first I tried to make it by gluing the moss roll but it turned out to be too thick for the hummer to perch on!

So I changed it a bit & removed the moss roll & simply rolled & tied the copper wire onto the pencil by cutting both the ends of the pencil. It turned out pretty good, after adding those flowers 🌺 to it!

The hummer still visits at least 20 odd times a day! But it is taking its time to getting used to the idea of my new perch, he will eventually perch on it once it is comfortable with it, I guess!!
