California native sunflower vs Regular sunflower

Last spring I planted both the California Native Sunflower plant and the regular Sunflower Plant in my garden and they both grew amazingly well. The flowers were a sight to sore eyes! Although the birds were especially the finches and the yellow throat warblers were attracted to the Native sunflower seeds. Enjoyed watching them both grow at their on pace.

Mosquito Fish

Its been such a long time since my last blog…I had this Water lily container pond for such a long time and never had it bloomed so profusely like in the past two years, that is ever since i added the mosquito fish in it.

I added at least 20 mosquito fish into the pond to curfew the mosquitos and eventually all of them turned belly up or so I thought. Then come the next spring the pond seemed cleaner and the lily is blooming back to back even without any fertilizer or pruning/repotting which was amazing. The one or two Mosquito fish that somehow survived managed to proliferate and brought back the population and they are thriving!

I’m so glad they survived and are annihilating the mosquitos 🦟 by their numbers and I still get to enjoy the fish and the ever beautiful lilies!

I am thinking of adding one more water container pond and planting another kind of Lily!! Will update how all that goes!
